Ahhhh yes, the month of carnival parties and love is here, and the Meet Market is out to celebrate it properly!! For the first time, this February, Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th, the Meet Market & Beat Market will be hosted in the beautiful, industrial “Βυρσοδεψείο” located at Orfeos 174 Botanikos. We’ll be filling over 1 strema of converted leather factory with 100 stalls of hand-made and independently-produced local creations from our regular favorite vendors plus plenty of new artists, designers, djs and D.I.Y. businesses. And this february, we wont be stopping at midnight. Thats right! … as soon as we finish the Meet Market on Saturday night, we’ll be moving to the ground floor of “Βυρσοδεψείο” to host our second Beat Market carnival party, so make sure you turn up in costume. Anything will do as long as you make some kind of effort.
So join us in a 48 hour Meet Beat Market extravaganza! Come for stroll around this month’s new venue, say hello to friends, have a shop, a mingle, a drink, a flirt, show off your costume or your dance moves… what ever your reason, just be there.

The third instalment of Felt welcomes three upcoming artists on a
really special collaboration project. Pleq, Hiroki Sasajima and
Spheruleus manage to overcome the sheer geographic distance that lies
between them to produce a really wonderful studio album.

Pleq and Hiroki Sasajima are from bustling capital cities; Warsaw and
Tokyo respectively, which has naturally had an impact on their sound.
Whilst Spheruleus is from a quiet Lincolnshire town in the UK,
surrounded by farmland. As a result of the inspiration drawn from
their different environments, the solo output from these three artists
is all quite different, with Pleq exploring glitch, drone and
sometimes downtempo styles, Hiroki working mainly with field
recordings and digital processes and Spheruleus focussing on acoustic instruments.

Whilst it took several months for the three artists to
craft the final outcome, the listener gets a sense of not a studio
album but rather a live improvised session. The sound is compound as
if they were all in the same room performing together and yet you can
clearly distinguish the three different approaches of sound design,
overlapping and yet never barricade each other.
The tracks are inspired by the language barrier and obviously the
physical distance between the artists, and are named after a certain
time of day that everybody in the world experiences, irrespective of
timezone or language differences. Almost as if they are trying to
capture various everyday life emotions and transcode them to a
non-language, universal and appealing form. The oneness and
togetherness of music.

Throughout this record, Hiroki Sasajima’s field recordings and drones
are carefully adapted by Pleq with the addition of gentle drones and
glitching textures, with Spheruleus weaving in subtle acoustic sounds
using his instrument collection. Together, three far-flung sound
artists have created a short and beautifully cohesive selection of
moods, designed for the turntable and beyond.

There are quiet places also in the mind’, he said meditatively. ‘But we build bandstands and factories on them. Deliberately — to put a stop to the quietness. … All the thoughts, all the preoccupations in my head — round and round, continually What’s it for? What’s it all for? To put an end to the quiet, to break it up and disperse it, to pretend at any cost that it isn’t there. Ah, but it is; it is there, in spite of everything, at the back of everything. Lying awake at night — not restlessly, but serenely, waiting for sleep — the quiet re-establishes itself, piece by piece; all the broken bits … we’ve been so busily dispersing all day long. It re-establishes itself, an inward quiet, like the outward quiet of grass and trees. It fills one, it grows — a crystal quiet, a growing, expanding crystal. It grows, it becomes more perfect; it is beautiful and terrifying … For one’s alone in the crystal, and there’s no support from the outside, there is nothing external and important…

<itunes:summary>There are quiet places also in the mind’, he said meditatively. It grows, it becomes more perfect; it is beautiful and terrifying … For one’s alone in the crystal, and there’s no support from the outside, there is nothing external and important…</itunes:summary>

The second weekend of October will take place a monthly event in downtown Athens called The Meet Market. You are welcome to come & check our records and enjoy a nice autmn afternoon by the sounds of our dj-set.

‘The Meet Market is a non-profit cultural collective of creatives.
We are a broadening, mobile community of designers, craftsmen, artists, collectors and independent businesses.
Once a month, we put together a 2 day weekend event in various venues, exhibiting and selling what we make along with a full line-up of music from local djs and music producers.
We began in December 2007 and have been growing ever since, with over 150 vendors and more than 3,000 visitors each month.’

Following an introduction to music connoisseurs via the four track EP Hiatus, released on Audio Gourmet, Byron now sets himself yet more firmly into the consciousness of the international experimental music scene with his first physical full-length release, No Minute Gone Comes Ever Back Again Take The Heed And See Ye Nothing Do In Vain.

The album’s mammoth title reflects the epic journey taken to arrive at this point, so let us start from the beginning; With a long lasting love of music, Byron was inspired to wander down a noisier path by artists such as Fennesz and the rest of the Type Records roster. Unlike the legion of wannabe’s and sound-alikes though, Byron was not content to merely copy the work of others. Rather, he used the likes of Fennesz and fellow noise-maestro luminaries as a starting point for his own journey, arriving at a destination wholly his own.

Work began in earnest three years ago, following Byron’s relocation from his native Athens to London and then interrupted by life’s usual vicissitudes. Following more travels, to Rotterdam, to Athens and, finally, Berlin, Byron resumed his craft and record a work both beautiful and at times ugly, coarse and challenging and immersive.

Finally Byron arrived with music he could be proud of and a digital version was made available for consumption. But this was not enough for the perfectionist guitarist and a year later Byron decided to revisit his work and remix the tracks with a fresh perspective and a new insight into what makes these tracks so special. The end result is here, eight pieces of ambience, which cover an entire spectrum of sound, from white noise to gentle tones and everywhere in between. Truly this is a work of exploration, both for listener and artist – an audial journey which ignores known boundaries and exceeds all expectations.
